If you have a big family like me… Or if you like to buy in bulk to save on cost… I highly recommend investing in a Food Saver!
I’ve bought my meats in bulk for many years now… If I don’t buy it from our local Butcher I usually end up buying it at Costco. I tend to buy hamburger meat 10-15 pounds at a time … Not only am I saving money by buying it in bulk but I also don’t find myself running to the store a couple times a week! I like to keep my store trips down to 2-3 a month… That’s a whole other subject I can go in depth on! I used to do the whole ziploc my meats up and toss them in the freezer… I started finding freezer burnt meats this way. Last year my Husband went on a fishing trip and came home with a bunch of Ling Cod (I wrote a post about this Beer Battered Fish and Chips) Well my Dad came down and helped us package it up with his Food Saver… I couldn’t believe I hadn’t used it prior to that! We had the last of our Cod in November about 6 months after we packaged it and there was no sign of freezer burn anywhere! Well this past Christmas I opened one of my gifts from my Husband… Of course a Food Saver… He knows me so well! 😉 I also got a set of knifes… and the year before a Kitchen Aid Professional!
I love my Food Saver so much I just had to share! I think in the long run they end up paying for them selves by saving you from throwing out freezer burnt food! I would say they are one item that everyone should have in the kitchen! They are also very easy and simple to use! I’ve provided a link to purchase them on Amazon below. I’ve been a Amazon Prime member for over a year now… Not only do I end up finding great prices on items I use in my kitchen daily… But it saves me a trip to the store and I tend to spend more in the store rather than just getting the item I was looking for! Also Amazon Prime makes it to you in 2 days… free shipping!
