When I was pregnant … Well I should say every time I was pregnant, and that would be 4 times… One of my biggest cravings was country gravy… There was a local restaurant that didn’t just serve it on biscuits and gravy, they slammed down some hash browns, open up a biscuit, lay a sausage patty on top, two over easy eggs and then smothered it with country gravy… There is so many things wrong with that… but at the same time so many things right about it! That same restaurant also served peanut butter/banana stuffed fried french toast … I don’t think they were very health conscious … but that worked for me because they satisfied my cravings … All in moderation right?! So by the 3rd pregnancy my 2 boys watched me order biscuits and gravy when we would go out to breakfast and one day they asked for a bite… No turning back now!
Once I started getting more involved in the kitchen over the years… I mean I do have a family of 6… that’s 6 mouths… 3 of which are growing boys… and they are not even teenagers yet… I keep telling myself hang on Sandy… it’s gonna get worse… think they clean out your cupboards now… just wait! Right?! I’ve really had no choice that to start making all of my own meals… Or get 3 jobs to try to pay for it all…. Alright I’m getting a little off track here… back on track 🙂 So once I started getting more involved in the kitchen and making my own breads … I was always making 20 Minute Homemade Biscuits … which by the way still do! I thought to myself you should make the kids some biscuits and gravy… gravy can’t be too hard to make. Well I tried a few recipes now and I knew I probably should of just checked with her first but I didn’t … and I think failing a few times first is what makes you better in the kitchen anyways… I always tell my family that they are my guinea pigs! Well if you know me … you know the “her” I’m talking about is the great Ree Drummond also know as the Pioneer Woman… I just love her… I have all her recipe books and was cooking her recipes before she was even on the Food Network. When she scheduled her 2013 book tour 3 of my girlfriends and I were down at the Seattle Library to see her in person… She’s so cool 😉 I now use her gravy recipe quite often… I have never messed this one up… So I’ve stuck to it!
- ½ pound breakfast sausage
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups milk
- pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- Brown your breakfast sausage over medium heat
- Spinkle with half of your flour and stir around to pick up the grease
- Add remaining flour and stir... Flour should have cleaned up all the grease and coated the sausage.
- Add the milk and continue to cook over medium heat as it thickens 5-10 minutes
- Add the salt and pepper
- If your sauce thickens too much just add a little extra milk till you get it at the consistency you want

I was going to snap a picture for you of the gravy poured over the biscuits… But guess what?… The kids came and ate them up before I could pull the camera back out!
